Statement of Faith

Dear sister ministries logo (6).png

 1. Scripture

The Bible consists of the Old and New Testaments and is the inerrant, inspired, and authoritative word of God. The scripture is the final authority for faith and life.  (Psalm 18:30, Deut. 4:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21)

2. God (Trinity)

There is only one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The trinity was present at the beginning, and God created the heavens and the earth. (Matthew 28:19, Colossians 2:9, Genesis 1:1)

3. Jesus Christ

In Christ all the fullness of God lives in bodily form. Jesus is God’s son, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is both fully God and fully man. (Colossians 2:9, Matt. 1:18-23)

Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day. Jesus is our representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are redeemed and justified on the ground of His shed blood. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Matthew 16:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 2:24)

Jesus has ascended into heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father, and is our advocate. (Hebrews 1:3, 1 John 2:1)

4. Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead, and is the helper that Jesus promised would come to man after Jesus ascended into heaven. The Holy Spirit dwells in every believer in Christ. We are the “temple of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 8:11, Acts 2:17, Joel 2:28)

The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to point to and proclaim the good news that Jesus Christ is God and Savior of the world, testify in our hearts that we are children of God, is the seal for our eternal life, and open the hearts and minds of those who do not see or understand God. (1 John 4:13-16)

5. Humanity & Sin

Sin is defined as missing the mark. Sin entered the world through one man, Adam, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)

We are eternally separated from God because of our sin. God is patient with us, not wanting any to perish but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

6. Salvation

Salvation means to be saved from sin, death, and everlasting punishment. God desires all to be saved, Christ came to save all sinners, even the worst offenders. (1 Timothy 1:15)

God provided a clear way for us to be united with him on this earth and for eternity.  If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life.” No one can come to the Father but through Christ (John 14:6).

Salvation is found in no one else, other than Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven given to man by which he must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

There is no good deed that will gain us salvation. (Isaiah 64:6)

7. Spiritual Growth

Though saved, we continue to struggle with sinful desires and sins, and will not be perfected while we live on this earth.  (Ephesians 1:4)

Christians are seen as blameless before a holy God because of Christ. (Colossians 1:22) We no longer need to live in condemnation for the sins we do. (Romans 8:1) We can live in freedom. (Galatians 5:1)

Sanctification is the process by which the Holy Spirit dwells in a believer, making them more and more like Christ. When we do sin as believers, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Ephesians 4:7, 1 John 1:9)

8. Church

When we are saved, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit and become children of God. (Ephesians 1:13-14, Romans 8:15-16)

The family of God is the church. The church is the “body” of Christ. We are “all one in Christ. Even though we are all given different gifts, there is one Holy Spirit that unifies all believers in Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:28, Ephesians 2:19, 1 Corinthians 12:4)

As image bearers of God, we are to treat every person with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31, Luke 6:31) We actively support the unity of all believers of every denomination, economic status, and ethnicity.

9. Eternity

As Christians, our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Where we will be forever with the Lord. (Philippians 3:21, 1 Thessalonians 4:17)

10. Our Mission

Our purpose as Christians is to live a life to glorify God and to enjoy him forever, until the Lord comes or we go to him. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 10:31)

In Luke 4, Jesus proclaimed that he came to fulfill the purpose proclaimed in Isaiah 61. Now that Jesus is in heaven, the Holy Spirit dwells in the believers to go into all the world and preach the good news of Jesus and what he has done. (Mark 16:15) He has now placed in our hearts the Holy Spirit to empower us to the same mission to proclaim good news to the poor, to set the captives free, and to proclaim that the day of God’s judgement is coming so that all who have been oppressed may be freed.

Isaiah 61:1-3 NLT

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
   instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
   instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
