How to Know and Trust God- Bible Study

Define the word trust.

We need to know someone to trust them.

What does it mean to know someone relationally? How do we know someone?

In the Bible, God has given us a blueprint for knowing Him and ultimately learning to trust Him. As we discussed earlier, to fully know someone, we need to investigate what drives them, what they are passionate about, and what their mission is. As we explore the five ways of knowing God, keep in mind areas in which you would like to deepen your relationship with God.

The Blueprint to Knowing God

1.        Experience God through observing His creation- Creation speaks and helps us know the power, creativity, and might of God. Read (Psalm 19:1-4 NIV; Luke 19:38-40). How have you experienced/ learned more about God in creation?

2.        Invite him to partner with you daily- Talking to Jesus and daily surrendering your life to him is the only way to build a relationship with God and build a life of wholeness. Read (Romans 10:9; Matthew 16:24-25; Gal 2:20). What do you need to surrender to God?

We cannot do this in our own strength; who has God given to dwell in us to help build a relationship with a Holy God? Read (1 Corinthians 2:10).

3.        Read the Bible- Read (2 Tim 3:15- 17). How do the scriptures help us know God and help us live our lives?

4.        To pray and listen to him- Read (Deut 30:20, Psalm 85:8). Relationships are a two-way street. To build a relationship with someone, you need to talk to them- sharing your heart. Then listen to what God has to say in his word. Watch as he speaks back to you in his word and in your daily lives. What does God know of us? What does he promise to do for those who listen to him?

5.        Trust and Obey Him- Read (John 14:15, Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 33:18-22) How do we show God we love him? What are the benefits of trusting and obeying God?

The concept of knowing God is straightforward. A child can learn to know God. Yet, the execution of this blueprint requires the skill of the Master Builder working in and through us to accomplish the work of building a relationship with Himself.

How can you practically pursue a deeper relationship with God?

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and KNOW that I am God.”

What are the benefits that come from being still and knowing God?

I’m so thankful that his love and grace is all we need to be able to get to know him. When I remember it is not my own work that helps me to accomplish all of the things it keeps me going and pursuing Him.

Me too. Life gets really overwhelming when I start believing that it is just by my effort, because I definitely can't do it on my own. A verse that really encourages me is Philippians 1:6, "He who began a good work is faithful to complete it." I am so glad he is there to be faithful to show up and to complete the tasks at hand- taking the fullness of the burden for success off of me. When I look to him and even when I don't, He is faithful to give me the strength to keep going. ❤️
