Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood written by Melissa B. Kruger is one of the books that has shaped my perspective on parenting and motherhood. There are many devotional books that deal with the topic of motherhood, but Mrs. Kruger does an exceptional job of using scripture to speak for itself instead of just giving her opinion on how to be the best mother that you can be.
Walking is a main theme that runs throughout the different topics discussed in this book. In Christianity, walking is a word used to express how you live your life. Ephesians 5:15, “Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,” Some of the chapter topics include: understanding your purpose in motherhood, entrusting your child to the Lord, fighting against anxiety and worry, letting go of harshness and anger, and recovering from Perfect Mom Syndrome (PMS). As moms, don’t we all need encouragement in these areas. This biblically based devotional would be great for your personal devotional or as small group material to do together. The only con of this study is the fair amount of homework that you will have if you are doing a chapter weekly. If you take the time to do the study, you would be richly rewarded with wisdom on how to walk through this season of motherhood.
Some of my favorite quotes are, "I realized anew that much of motherhood is about watching and praying." "In a moment my heart can turn to the Lord in prayer and find peace for all that I cannot control," (pg 61) "Experiencing contentment in all things begins with understanding that all things will not be ours on our earthly journey. Just as a tent cannot hold all the comforts of a home, this world cannot provide all that we long for, but letting go of our expectations and turning our eyes to Jesus, we find hope and joy for the journey." (pg 114)
